To make sure the victory of its prime ministerial nominee, the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp) has decided to field Narendra from Gujarat's Vadodara parliamentry constituency in addition to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The saffron party has assigned Gandhinagar to its veteran leader LK Advani.
The decision was taken after a day-long meeting, which was attended BJP's senior leaders, including Modi, at the BJP headquarters in the national capital on Wednesday. The party has released its fifth list of 67 candidates for the upcoming polls.
There had been reports that Modi would contest a second seat from his home state, where he is serving his fourth consecutive term as Chief Minister. He has never contested a national election and is a member of the Gujarat legislature.
