Barmer has become a prestige issue for Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje and she is taking no chances to defeat Jaswant Singh. BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Barmer on April 12. Even Raje has visited Barmer thrice and putting all her weight behind BJP's candidate Sonaram Chowdhary. The BJP on Thursday removed Manvendra Singh, expelled party leader Jaswant Singh's son who is the MLA from Sheo in Rajasthan, from its national executive.
In her bid to ensure the Col Sonaram’s victory, the party has of late started sending a number of popular leaders, who have caste-based support base in the region, one after another to Barmer. Even the party’s prime ministerial candidate and BJP’s face for 2014 elections Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Barmer on April 12.
