Safety First: Wearing Helmet To Be Made Mandatory For Women In Delhi

Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung has given his approval to a transport department proposal that makes wearing helmets mandatory for women pillion riders in the city.
 
The government had to exempt women from wearing helmets after stern objection by Sikh community. A PIL regarding the same was dismissed by Delhi HC in January.
 
The transport department is now planning to amend the rule 115 of the act, exemption women from wearing helmets.
 
Transport Department of Delhi has sent a proposal to Election Commission for approval; the rule will be applicable one month after the approval of the proposal.
