In
order to change from being a forum of social activism into a political
party, some members of the India Against Corruption (IAC) decided to
form a group in November 2012. Calling itself Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the new outfit contested the Delhi Assembly elections in 2013 under the leadership of an ordinary middle-class man Arvind Kejriwal and emerged as a political force that formed a government in the national capital with outside support this January.
Nobody expected the AAP
to capture the imagination of the people of Delhi so quickly and become
a thorn in the side of the political ambitions of the established
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress.
